Summer Competition 2015

This autumn Somerset County Council will be launching a Field to Fork Education Hub in South Petherton. The hub, based at Frogmary Green Farm, will provide farm visits and outdoor learning opportunities for schools, colleges and pre-school settings. It will also provide a range of training opportunities for anyone that works with children, young people and their families including:

· Developing the outdoor curriculum

· The natural environment and wellbeing

· Growing, cooking and food

· Making school meals count

· Conservation and ecology

· Outdoor play

To help us mark the launch of this exciting resource and Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution we are running a special growing and cooking summer competition.

We know that many schools are already very good at promoting cooking and growing activities but with Ofsted’s increased focus on healthy lifestyles and school food from September 2015, we feel there’s no better time to encourage children and young people to explore the delights of growing, cooking and eating their own fruit and veg!

How to enter: We would like children to tell us about what they are growing at school, or home, and to come up with a recipe for that ingredient. We realise that schools might break up before some of their food is harvested so we won’t expect children to use the actual fruit or vegetable they have grown but if that’s possible, then great!

Prizes: A panel of professional cooks and gardeners will select the 20 most interesting and tasty entries. Those lucky winners will be invited to come along to our special launch day at Frogmary Green Farm in the autumn where they will have the opportunity to do some growing and cooking activities and take away some great Grow & Cook prizes!

Closing date: 6th July 2015
