Mental Health and Wellbeing

 

Mental health problems affect about 1 in 10 children and young people: they include depression, anxiety and conduct disorder, and are often a direct response to what is happening in their lives. There is a clear link between mental and physical health. The emotional wellbeing of children and young people is of equal importance to their physical health. Good mental health enables children and young people to enjoy and achieve.

 

The Mental Health Toolkit

 

Public Health have developed a Mental Health Toolkit which provides information and support about mental health and emotion wellbeing. It is designed to support staff in schools and colleges but also offers advice and information for anyone who has responsibility for children and young people, including parents. Teenage Years Leaflet

 

Public Health has joined forces with Somerset's Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) and local parents to produce a leaflet for parents about supporting young people during the teenage years. The leaflet helps parents to understand some of the reasons behind teenage behaviour and ways that parents can help during this time of growth and change.
